Geospatial industry has been emerging as fastest growing industry globally. Advancements in the field of geosptail technology and  its convergence with information technology, and subsquent integration with engineering tools have paved the way for industrialisation and commercialisation of geospatial information and technology, binding itself into well defined industry eco-system.

Today, geospatial industry finds its value and utility in almost every walk of socio-economic activity embedding location and precision persepctives. Over these many years, it has transformed itself from mere mapping tool to industrial process offering value in terms of enhancing productivity, efficiency, cost effectiveness, transperacy, safety, project management.

A demand for cloud-based and open-interoperable solutions has led to a major shift in business models of the geospatial industry. The fast-changing technology trends are cutting down gestation periods and innovation life-span, resulting in profit vulnerability. How did the businesses respond? System integration and user-driven solutions became the new direction. Stakeholders — who have traditionally been working as standalone isolated players — are exploring opportunities for integration and convergence, leading to evolution of workflows and seamless delivery of solutions.

As the industry moves towards consolidation and value addition, companies are becoming more open with their policies in terms of collaboration within and outside the industry.  Entire chain of geospatial business is getting redefined. Solution and System Integration companies are significant and valuable stakeholders of geospatial business chain as against traditional distributors and resellers. On the one hand product companies are strengthening their direct engagement with end user organisations and on the other hand large end users prefers to have an system integrator or solution development company as an interface while dealing with product companies. Above developments brings more value for end users in terms of adoption and implementation of geospatial tools across enterprise, adding larger values and ensuring better returns on investments, and ultimately opening doors for expanding business prospects.
